Dividend Income - December & Year 2023, Goals for the year 2024

December, the last month of the year, has passed and with it, 2023 is already history. It's time to report my dividend income and take a look at how the year went and set goals for 2023. The dividend income for the last month of the year was as follows:

My Total dividends in December are €2,636.32 ($2,886.40). After taxes, my net dividend income is €1,958.37 ($2,143.88). In year 2022 my net dividend income in December was € 1,891.14 ($2,002.42). My portfolio's net dividend income increased by €67.23 or 3.6% to compared the same month of previous year. Compared to the previous year, there have been some changes to the dividend income of December: Two new dividend payers have joined to the portfolio, namely WTRG and LHX, TRTN has left it while acquired by Brookfield Infrastructure and GLNG reinstated the quarterly dividend. Additional purchase such NEE, MFC.TO, ENB.TO, PPL.TO, FTS.TO, MAIN and O. Compared to a year ago, the holdings also included some nice dividend increases like AVANCE, COP, V and ADM, but unfortunately also dividend cut from INTC, VFC and SDIV.

This net passive income of €1,958.37 means that I received a reasonable €63.17 every day or €2.63 per every hour during December, no matter what I did. For the year 2023, the corresponding amounts are €60.50 per day and €2.52 per hour.

This month's dividend increased my cumulative net dividend income € 156,398.61.

Net income / expenditure

  • Net passive income for December was €1,958.37, year total for to date €22,083.72

  • Total expenditure for December was €1,360.72, year total for to date €17,250.17

  • The result for December was €597.65, year total for to date €4,833.55

Dividend Income 2023

My total passive income for 2022 reached €29,747.58 ($32.190.93), after tax payments, my net passive income is €22,083.72 ($23,897.60), so I fell slightly short of my net passive income target for 2022, which was €22 500.00. Compared to the last year, my net dividend income decreased by €412.01 or 1.83%. The year 2023 went reasonably well, although I did not reach my target. However, my passive income covered all my expenses, so for the second year in a row I was financially independent.

Goals for 2024

Now that I have achieved financial independence, my intention is mainly to reinvest most of the dividends, focus on enjoying life and a nice dividend stream, and work a little less. The year also got off to an unwelcome start with the WBA announcing a dividend cut, and this is unlikely to be the only unpleasant announcement in the year ahead. Exchange rate developments have also a big impact on the achievement of this objective, as about 75% of my passive income comes in currencies other than the euro. Therefore, for this year, I am setting a target of €23,500 in net passive income.

Full Disclosure: Long on above mentioned stocks except TRTN.
