Dividend Income May 2014

In May 2014 my portfolio dividend income was as follows:

Annual dividends received from

  • Gjensidige Forsikring (GJF) - €618.34 (NOK5120.00) ($866.15)
  • Tele2 AB (TEL2-B) - €96.80 (SEK880.00) ($133.52)

Quarterly dividends received from
  • AT&T (T) - €82.64 ($115.00)
  • Alerian MLP ETF (AMLP) -  €101.84 ($139.50)
  • Kinder Morgan Inc. (KMI) - €53.66 ($73.50)
  • Oriflame (ORI-SDB) - €74.33 (SEK674.58) ($101.87)

Monthly dividends received from
  • Global X SuperDividend ETF (SDIV) - €51.72 ($72.30)

My Total dividends in May are € 1079.32 ($ 1501.84). After tax payments, net dividend income is € 797.18. In year 2013, my net dividend income in May was € 860.09. My portfolio's net dividend income decreased by 7,89% compared to last year in May. Dividend revenue decrease in May is mainly due to two reasons; Oriflame changed dividend payments quarterly dividends instead of annual dividends, as well as the fact that, I reduced the number of my holding in Tele2 at the end of last year.

This month's dividend increased my cumulative net dividend income € 13339.39.

My total net dividend income for this year are now € 4356.28.

My goal is to receive € 6.000 in net dividends for this year.

  1. Looking good Hawk. I'm confident you'll meet your dividend goal this year. Which companies are you looking to purchase next?

    1. Hi Bryan
Yeah it looks that I will meet my goal easily this year. I have about 30 companies on my yahoo watch list. Which companies I will purchase next, depends how the market will work during a couple of the next months. I would like to have PG, UL, CL, AFL in my portfolio, also would like to add more Canadian stocks, like TD, BMO, RCI, BCE, T. One REIT HCP has been on my list already long time. Some days ago found one interesting company from Oslo stock exchange, Avance Gas (AVANCE.OL) which I need to look more closely. That surely has much higher risk as those other ones, which I mentioned.

    1. Hi R2R and thanks. April and May are the best months for my dividend income, cause of those annual dividends.
And congratulations on your new house!

  3. Great month Hawk. T and KMI were heavy lifters for me this month also. Keep up the great progress and good luck reaching your annual dividend goal.

  4. Hawk - Another nice month in the books. With just five months behind us, it appears you are well on your way to meet and likely exceed your annual dividends goal. Way to go!

Wishing you continued success in your journey. AFFJ

  6. Congrats on an impressive month. While it is positive that Oriflame changed to a quarterly payout (more points in which we can evaluate if the payout is still what we expect) it is said that it now messes up your graph :) as you will now have one month in which there was a year-on-year decline in dividends.

    Best,

    1. Hi A-G
For foreign companies, the dividend withholding tax I pay usually 15%, in addition to pay tax on the dividend by 10.5% to Finland, so my total tax rate on dividends is 25.5%. ETFs is paying income as distributions, so I will pay a withholding tax of 15% and an additional 15% in Finland, so the total tax rate will be 30%, which is the capital income tax rate in Finland. Dividend revenue is 15% of the tax-free income. (0,30 * 0,85 = 0,255 = 25,5 %)

    1. Hi
If I had started investing 10-15 years earlier, the answer would certainly be yes. Now I am motivated by the opportunity to choose how much I want to work after 10 years and get a nice income stream in addition to my pension.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Your income stream are very impressive and i'm sure it will bring you much joy. Do you know any other finnish blogger who is aiming for "early retirement" and if they have written anything about tax optimization in Finland? Eg raising dividends personally or owning shares in a company and take out a dividend/salary from it.

    3. HI
I follow a several number of Finnish blogs, some of them can be found on my blog list. At least http://viisikymppisenaelakkeelle.blogspot.fi/ and http://vaurastumisentiella.blogspot.fi/ aim is to early retirement. Osinkopuu has written an excellent article on the establishment of an investment company. (http://warrengrahaminosinkopuu.blogspot.fi/2013/06/sijoitusyhtion-perustamisesta.html)
