On 29 September 2017 I sold 200
shares of AVANCE at NOK 23.00 per share minus commission.
In the summer of 2014, I bought
AVANCE for the first time and then added another two times. I had a total of
400 shares, which I have now sold a half.
At the beginning of AVANCE paid a
really high dividend yield, and I understood that it will be inserted the
smaller in the future, but I didn't think that dividend payments will cease
completely. The reason for
the end of the payment of the dividend was simple, the company's revenue fell,
while cargo prices fell sharply as transport capacity increased. This is
clearly visible from this graph.
Summary of transactions:
- 2014-07-04: Bought 200 shares of AVANCE at € 18.29 per share: € 3,653.61
- 2014-10-27: Cash Dividend: € 107.83
- 2015-03-11: Cash Dividend: € 134.06
- 2015-06-04: Cash Dividend: € 92.83
- 2015-09-07: Cash Dividend: € 159.70
- 2015-11-30: Cash Dividend: € 295.54
- 2016-02-19: Cash Dividend: € 87.35
- 2016-05-11: Cash Dividend: € 38.76
- 2017-09-29: Sold 200 shares of AVANCE at € 2.40 per share: € 480.78
Capital loss: € 3,172.83
Net loss: € 2,256.76
Dividend income reported after the
deduction of taxes.
The only positive thing about this
AVANCE adventure is that I now have capital loss which I can reduce from my
capital gains in this year's tax report. I still have 200 AVANCE shares, which
I pretty sure will sellout in about a year.

Thanks for stopping by!
The law has changed and capital losses are offset against all capital income, including dividends. This in case if you have no capital gains.
ReplyDeleteHi, I know this change, it was already in existence in 2016.
DeleteThank you for the comment,

Hi DH,
ReplyDeleteI guess it is always a hard decision to sell on a loss. But I assume your main criteria remain "are the reasons I bought it still there, i.e. is this stlll a business worth owning?" and "is the dividend going to be cut or has it already been cut?".
Keep up the great work and thanks for the excellent blog.
