Dividend Income - December & Full Year 2020, Goals for the year 2021

December, the last month of the year and the year has passed, and it’s time to declare my dividend income and see how the whole year went. Dividend income for the last month of the year was as follows:

My Total dividends in December are € 1,735.11 ($ 2,104.15). After tax payments, my net dividend income is € 1,289.74 ($ 1,564.04). In year 2019, my net dividend income in December was € 1,222.04. My portfolio's net dividend income increased by € 67.70 or 5.5% to compared the same month of last year. Compared to the previous year, there have been several changes to the dividend income of December: Telia paid extraordinary dividend to shareholders, many new holdings in a portfolio (AVA, PNW, RTX, UNP, V, AFL, PRU and MFC.TO), additional purchases (PFE, MMM and UPS), Some nice dividend increases (TROW and ENB) but unfortunately also distribution decreases by SDIV, dividend cut by D. Also for a few companies the movements of the dividend payments, in November UNA.AS and WRK and to January BEP and BIP. The change in the exchange rate (EUR / USD) also had a large effect on the amount of dividends calculated in euros.

This month's dividend increased my cumulative net dividend income € 93,358.53.

Dividend Income 2020

My total dividend income for 2020 reached € 21,648.86 ($ 24,494.49), after tax payments, my net dividend income is € 16,073.53 ($ 18,187.35).so I clearly missed my target net dividend income for 2020, which was €18,000.00. Compared to the last year, my net dividend income increased by 561.66 euros or 3.6%. Despite the relatively small increases in net dividend income, I am relatively satisfied with my result, the year was, as we all surely know, a difficult and exceptional.

Goals for 2021

My intention is to continue to invest € 500 regularly every month and reinvest the dividends in the shares that I have chosen. With this plan, I should make one to two purchases per month.

For 2021, I will renew my target of € 18,000.00 (net passive income), which would mean average € 1.5k per month.

Achieving this target will not be easy, as the situation in many areas remains difficult and the downturn is likely to continue for at least the first half of the year. Besides, the exchange rate changes have a big effect on achieving this goal, as about 75 percent of my passive income comes in other currencies than in the euro.

I`m looking positively forward and I try to work hard to achieve my financial independence by the end of 2021.

Full Disclosure: Long on above mentioned stocks.

  2. Impressive work! Can I ask in what range have your average deposits been since 2010? Seems like dividends are your primary source of investment capital for a long time already. It would still be interesging to see how you got here, thanks in advance! Roju

    1. Hi Roju and thanks! My deposits were about 100k in 2010, but the size of the stock portfolio was around 20k. Yes, I reinvest dividends in new and existing companies, but I have also added a new capital.

      Cheers,
      DH

  5. Whats your long term target? Do you have some net dividend number in mind when you would declare FIRE and start living of from investment income only? I've followed your journey since 2010 and it has been a great ride! Keep 'em dividends rolling!

    1. Hi Timo and thanks! Yes, it is possible for me to live on dividend income when it will reaches € 1,500 per month net, or € 18,000 per year. Depending on different things, I think by 2022 at the latest I will achieve FIRE.

      Cheers,
